Artist Encounter: Richard Nonas

February 23, 2015

“What do we photograph when we photograph our own sculpture?” Join us for a special evening at CIMA’s Medardo Rosso exhibition with acclaimed sculptor Richard Nonas, presented in collaboration with the Fergus McCaffrey Gallery.

Nonas will address Medardo Rosso’s photographs as an important part of his sculptural making — the testing of his work against the emotional world of its maker. Nonas believes that Medardo’s production of large groups of almost identical photographs — roughly and differentially cropped, variously faded and shadowed — show us an artist fascinated by how physical placement shifts sculptural meaning; show us, that is to say, a sculptor actually using each sculpture as a tool to think with.
